Must-Have Pages

Do you have your Legal Pages set up and displayed in your footer?

  • ✅ Perfect! Having a Privacy Policy, Terms & Conditions, Refund Policy (if applicable), Shipping Policy (if applicable) Accessibility Statement and other needed agreements displayed not only shows your legitimacy but they keep you protected!

  • Let's get you pointed in the right direction to create your legal pages! You need these to provide clear expectations, show authority, protect your business legally and much more.

    ➡️ NEXT STEPS:

    1. Work on writing and creating the following legal pages:

    +Accessibility Statement

    +Privacy Policy

    +Refund Policy (if applicable)

    +Cancelation Policy (if applicable)

    +Shipping Policy (if applicable)

    +Terms & Conditions

...and any other policies you need to protect your specific business.

I would highly recommend consulting a lawyer to write these and discuss all of the needed policies for your specific business as HM Digital Design can not provide legal advice directly.

    2. Add all of these legal pages to a section in your footer so that it is displayed on all of your sites pages

Do you have a custom 404 Page?

  • You are already a step ahead of most! A custom 404 page keeps visitors on your site incase you have a broken link (this happens sometimes) or if someone has an old link saved. This small detail shows your dedicate to your UX(User Experience) PLUS this helps search engines crawl your site without reaching dead ends or "zombie pages". Great work, friend!

  • This is often a missed detail but can make a HUGE difference in the 'crawl-ability' of your site from search engines, improves SEO and elevates your UX(User Experience).

SEO

Are your images optimized for speed and SEO?

  • ✅ Nice! Optimized images improve loading speed and search engine performance with total site speed, alt text for SEO and ADA Compliance.

  • Large, slow-loading images can frustrate visitors. Compressing them improves speed and visibility. Plus adding the alt text that is SEO optimized not only follows ADA but it also increased visibility on search engines!

    💜 NEXT STEPS:

    1. Compress images to a smaller size before uploading and adding them to your pages. But be careful not to make them too small where they are blurry or low-quality; because that will actually HURT your SEO and UX(User Experience) even more.

    2. Go to the settings or options for each image and be sure you have alt text that contains at least one keyword for SEO.

Do your pages have SEO-friendly titles and meta descriptions?

  • Perfect! Search engines can better understand and rank your pages this way! Plus, your visitors see those page titles in their browsers and when they 'favorite' your site.

  • Adding SEO titles and meta descriptions is a small change with big results for visibility! These are often the first things search engines 'crawl' to get to know your page and if it matches a search done by your future client.

    NEXT STEPS:

    1. Edit all of your page titles by going into the settings for each page. Your page titles should contain:

+ what the page is (ex: Online Shop)

    + Your full business name

+ Business address/who this page is for

example: Online Shop | ABC Company | 123 hwy 22 NC 23345 | Skin Care Products For Oily Skin

    2. Create a triggering description of each page that contains keywords and put this in your meta descriptions for each page

Are you keeping track of your sites analytics, security checks and traffic?

  • You're a pro! This is great insight on what you can add/improve on your site to increase SEO and conversions. Learning whats working and whats not in your strategies is what helps you increase visiblity and sales!

  • Keeping up with your analytics with Google Analytics/Google Search Console or your web hosts analytics reports is the insight you need into how your website is performing and where you can make changes to increase visibility with SEO and sales conversion. These reports can be hard to read but they provide PERFECT game plans for your business growth.

    NEXT STEPS:

    1. Familiarize yourself with your web hosts analytics reports and options for tracking.

    2. Sign up for Google Search Console for more insight from Google on how your website is performing on search engines

Does every page include a clear H1 heading and organized sub-headings (H2/H3)

  • Great structure! That helps both users and Google understand your content hierarchy. Which is important for search engines to crawl your websites content correctly. PLUS this is in compliance with ADA, so that's great!

  • Unstructured content can confuse search engine crawlers, lower readability and is not in compliance with ADA.

    NEXT STEPS:

Go to the settings for each heading you have to be sure they are coded properly:

    Main Headings = H1

    Sub-headings = H2 or H3

No, you can't just have bold text to make a header, it actually has to be coded correctly.

The rest of your copy for paragraphs should also be coded as P1 and so on.

UX(User Experience) & Design

Is your website mobile-friendly and responsive?

  • 💜 Excellent! Your site is accessible and functional on any device. This is a huge plus for visitors! About 85% of your viewers are using your site on their phones and tablets. If it is confusing, chaotic or missing elements off the screen, they will click off. Instantly uninterested. (PLUS this causes ADA Compliance issues again) Great job! This isn't always easy to do!

  • 📲 Mobile traffic is huge. If your site isn’t responsive, you could be losing leads PLUS non-compliant to ADA. About 85% of your viewers are using your site on their phones and tablets. If it is confusing, chaotic or missing elements off the screen, they will click off. Instantly uninterested. But don't worry, it can be fixed! 😁

    NEXT STEPS:

If your web host doesn't have a separate mobile editor you can check the quality of your mobile site by using Googles Free Tool.

OR check your site on your phone and see where you can make changes. Here are some things to check:

+ Are all elements, content and graphics visible and not cut off?

+ Do all links and buttons work properly?

+ Is it easy to use?

+ Can you access all needed pages and information?

+ Can you read everything easily? (Remember, contrast of colors, size of content and readability is important to stay compliant with ADA.)

Do you have a call-to-action(CTA) in your welcome/hero section on your homepage?

  • Great! Visitors know exactly what to do, where to go to book/shop and move forward. Clarity equals conversions!

  • Without a clear CTA, visitors can get lost. Even a simple ‘Book a Call’ or ‘Explore Services’ button makes a big difference! Truth is, most people don't scroll through to figure out how to book/shop. They want to get straight to the point. You want to make this easy for the viewer to know where to go within the first 5 seconds.

    NEXT STEPS:

    1. Add a button to your welcome section that encourages a visitor to move forward; getting straight to the point. Most people don't scroll the whole page to find what they are looking for. Make it easy to find the booking/shop link!

    EXTRA TIP:
Add a CTA at the bottom of your home page also, to encourage them to move forward after they may have scrolled through your homepage.
Also each service page should have a similar CTA at the top and bottom too... at least! Every business is different and having more CTA throughout the pages could also be helpful if this fits with the business type.

Are your brand colors and fonts consistent across all pages?

  • Consistency builds trust and strengthens your brand recognition. You want your brand to be impressive, consistant and memerable. Your brand displays trust and authority. Great job!

  • Inconsistent branding confuses visitors and looks 'cheap' and quickly put together without care. Even small tweaks keep your site polished and professional. Keep your colors and fonts consistent across all pages to show trust and authority. This is something super simple to do to really elevate your brands presence!

    NEXT STEPS:

Make sure all of your colors across your website are the exact color codes that are used in your logo and other branding material like social media content. Not just similar colors... the EXACT color codes are important!

Try to limit your brand colors to a main color, and two accent colors. Try not to overlap similar colors, making content hard to see or read. Remember ADA... color contrast is part of being in compliant with ADA to people who are visually impaired.

Do you have Social Share images for your pages?

  • Amazing! This is something that is often missed but so powerful for your brands presence on social media. You want to look impressive even before something clicks to view your page.
